Before the NBA season begins, players attend the team’s training camp to prepare for the 82 regular-season games. In addition to regular players with guaranteed contracts, a number of players have been invited to the aforementioned camps. The NBA training camp contract salaries for these players aren’t huge, but they’re still a substantial amount, with perks.
NBA training camp contract salary
NBA training camp is an essential part of the season. This gives coaches the opportunity to develop game plans, evaluate players and make rotation adjustments. Meanwhile, players are using this time to prepare their bodies for a long season.
For unguaranteed players, it’s not just about getting into top basketball shape. They have to impress the coaching staff so they can get a spot on the team.
How Much Salary Do NBA Players Get in Summer League?
The NBA Summer League is where players showcase their talent. First-round picks usually guarantee a spot on their team, whether or not they’re doing well in the tournament.
However, second-round picks and undrafted players must impress the coaches and scouts present. They hope to get at least a spot in either of the team’s training camps or sign them to a two-way contract.
In addition to the opportunity to make a good impression on different NBA teams, summer league players can earn a stipend of $1,500 during the game, or about $136 per day over an 11-day period. This includes players who already have contracts with their respective teams.
In addition to perks, players have perks such as airfare to Las Vegas, hotel accommodations, transportation, uniforms, meals, and more. The team basically covers all costs associated with the event.
Players who impress in the tournament have a good chance of earning a training camp roster. Once signed, they’ll get an NBA training camp salary, which is better than what they got in summer league.
What is an NBA training camp contract?
NBA training camp rosters are limited to 20 players. This includes players who have signed guaranteed, partially guaranteed and non-guaranteed contracts.
Players invited to training camp without a contract will receive a non-guaranteed training camp contract. This allows teams to pay players minimum wages and terminate contracts before the regular season begins.
According to the NBA’s CBA rules, these contracts must cover a season, stipulate a minimum player salary or two-way salary, have no compensation protections, and include Exhibit 9. Additionally, teams can only waive non-guaranteed training camp contracts up to six times.
After training camp, teams will determine the final 15-man roster for the regular season. That means five players in training camp will be cut. However, teams can still sign up to two players on two-way contracts outside of the 15-man roster.
Are NBA training camps paid?
Yes, players who attend training camp get paid.
Compared to the salaries of regular players, NBA training camp salaries are anything but lucrative. Still, it’s fair compensation for putting in the work and getting to training camp.
How much money did you make from training camp?
NBA training camp trade salaries depend on whether players are healthy before being laid off.
Healthy players who are cut will receive a pro-rated weekly salary of $2,000. Meanwhile, players with injuries and cuts will receive $6,000.
