At home against the Suns on Tuesday, the Warriors upgraded star Stephen Curry to potentially return from a left shoulder injury. Here’s what you need to know:
- Curry’s labrum damaged due to left shoulder subluxation, league sources tell Athleticin the December 14 game against the Pacers.
- He exited that game in the third quarter after partially blocking Jalen Smith’s shot. Immediately before the timeout, he grabs his left shoulder and jogs slowly onto the field.
- The Warriors said on Dec. 24 that Curry’s recovery is “progressing well” and that he will be evaluated again in two weeks.
background story
Curry is averaging 30 points, 6.6 rebounds and 6.8 assists in 26 games this season while shooting 50 percent from the field.
If he plays against Phoenix, his absence will end at 11 games. Golden State is 6-5 without him — including a five-game winning streak at home from Dec. 25 to Jan. 2 — and is 20-20 on the year, No. 1 in the West. seven.
The team’s .158 road win percentage is on track to be its worst single-season record (.146) since 2000-01, when the Warriors went 17-65 overall.
