Former multisport star and former head coach of the Jackson State Tigers, Deion Sanders, received a lot of support when he was head coach at Colorado State.
Among those lavishing praise for Sanders is basketball Hall of Famer Magic Johnson. The former Lakers star and team president extended warm congratulations to Sanders.
His succinct tweet read: “Congratulations to Coach Deion Sanders on his appointment as Head Coach of the University of Colorado!”
That’s all well and good, except for one detail: The Magic congratulated Sanders today, December 8. Five days ago, on December 3, Sanders and Colorado formalized their alliance.
Oops. While Magic’s late tweets have gone viral and been widely circulated, it’s nothing new. Johnson’s brand of fun, quirky ideas has created a cult following for his Twitter account.
To give one such example, Johnson tweeted in 2014: “The only way the Spurs or Miami can’t win a title is if neither team makes the Finals.”
Unsurprisingly, Magic’s Twitter audience was lighthearted about the latest gaffe. Barstool’s Colorado page sarcastically asked Magic about the source of the news, and another user joked, “Wait to hear what happened to Internet Explorer.”
