LeBron and Bronny James will have a chance to play together in 2024. Here are five of the father-son duo’s most realistic destinations.

LeBron James is still one of the top players in the world, even at 38 years old. The way this guy takes care of himself is surreal, and in terms of longevity, there hasn’t been a player as great as him. Whether he’s the GOAT or not is an entirely different story, but breaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s scoring record would be fantastic for the Kings’ career. With the 2023 season winding down, there has been a lot of speculation about James’ career and how he will play out his final years.

Remember, James has made it clear that he wants to play with his oldest son, Bronny James. Based on early rosters, Bronny is clearly a top-10 pick. It bodes well for the young man, as his hard work and father’s guidance has clearly paid off so far. It’s clear Bronny will be an NBA player in due course, but where will he end up? Specifically, if LeBron James was inclined to play with his son, where would he end up? Bronny James was predicted to end up with the Orlando Magic, a team LeBron James made clear he would never play for. In fact, The King even said he would retire before considering joining them!
Is it really? Probably not, because the desire to step on the same team as his son was too strong to resist. James seems content with his 4 NBA titles, 4 Finals MVPs, 4 MVPs and all-time scoring record, so it would be great to spend another season with the Lakers before joining the team of his choice in the 2025 season meaningful. James is not short of money at all. He is the first player whose annual salary in the NBA alone exceeds 500 million US dollars. James is expected to make more than $44 million next year and $46 million a year later. James has a player option worth more than $50 million in 2025, but is he willing to forego that option and join a team that has his son? Absolutely.
Here’s where LeBron James and Bronny James could end up. The King has stated his goal is to play with his son, and these 5 destinations could end up being where the talent ends up congregating.
Oklahoma City Thunder

The Oklahoma City Thunder have one of the most fascinating and talented cores in the NBA. Chet Holmgren, who has yet to play an NBA game, is number one. At 7-foot-0 and 195 pounds, Chet is big, with offensive skills including three-point shooting, and defensive skills including elite shot-blocking. Josh Giddey was selected with the 6th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and has proven to be a very talented point guard at 6-foot-8. Giddy averaged 16.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game and is one of the most unique all-around point guards in recent memory. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a first-time All-Star in 2023 and is currently the best player on the team.
Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 30.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.7 assists while displaying his elite athleticism and killer instincts throughout the season. Clearly, this core is built for the future, and the three together could be scary. However, it will be a few years before the Thunder actually become a contender, so they have a good chance of drafting Bronny James. That means LeBron James could decline his option with the Lakers and join the Thunder in a team-friendly deal to play alongside Bronny. How does a starting lineup of Giddey, Gilgeous-Alexander, Bronny, LeBron and Holmgren sound? Absolutely dire for the opposition.
The Thunder will have Gilgeous-Alexander under him for a few more years, Holmgren is healthy (hopefully), Giddy has more confidence with the ball, and veteran LeBron James will lead the team every night. With Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, James Harden they can’t win a championship, but they have LeBron, Bronny, Jedi, Holmgren and Gilgeous-Alexander Definitely can win.
orlando magic

If Bronny gets drafted by Orlando, as most sports sites predict, it could be very interesting to see LeBron James renege on his previous word and sign them as a free agent. Can the Orlando Magic guarantee a win with LeBron and Bronny? Not quite, as only No. 1 overall pick and current Rookie of the Year favorite Paul Banchero is considered untouchable on the roster. Unless Jonathan Isaac can somehow stay healthy and prove he can be an All-Star defensive wing, the Magic are still years away from contention.
Paolo Banchero is a true star as he averages 19.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 0.9 steals on 41.9 percent shooting from the field, 28.1 percent from three and 75.3 percent from the free throw line . He doesn’t shoot very well, but that’s to be expected for a 20-year-old rookie who’s still learning how to be the centerpiece of his team. Banchero is by far the most impressive rookie at 6-foot-10 with a solid scorer. With Banchero on the roster, Bronny can start alongside him at shooting guard, forming a dynamic offensive duo. Of course, Isaac’s defensive prowess could be another solid starter.
LeBron can make this team more deadly on the court, as he can use his leadership and playmaking skills to improve the youngsters. Bronny, who won’t learn more from anyone but his own father, remains the best passer in the NBA and the greatest leader in history. The Kings will also ease Banchero’s scoring load, making him a more efficient offensive player. LeBron might not like the idea of ββplaying in Orlando, but if the predictions come true and the Kings want to play with Bronny, that might be something the Kings will have to live with.
miami heat

Miami wants another star player, and they would happily welcome back LeBron James. Under Eric Spoelstra, the Kings helped the team to two NBA titles alongside Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, so he clearly has connections to South Beach. The decision seems like a long time ago, but it was a groundbreaking one that effectively changed the NBA forever, as players now took their careers into their own hands, rather than staying “loyalty.” To get LeBron James back, the Heat need to position themselves to draft Bronny James.
LeBron and Brownies in South Beach are too good to be true. Selling out every night, the father and son duo are sure to enjoy the Florida lifestyle together. Bam Adebayo will most likely be on the roster since he’s only 25 years old and still has at least 7 or 8 years left in his prime. Jimmy Butler is almost 34, so he could be an older player who’s either getting less money or could be on his last stand. Tyler Herro is the current star of the Miami Heat at just 23 years old, so he could be another long-term player.
With Bronny and LeBron joining Herro and Bam, Miami looks scary on the court. James clearly enjoyed playing for the Heat, as he reached four straight NBA Finals and won two back-to-back NBA titles in 2012 and 2013. Can LeBron win it all in 2025? Probably not, but we don’t know how the Heat shape their roster and who they can get if they do end up drafting Bronny, since LeBron will be right next to any deal the team offers.
los angeles lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers are in a unique position right now because they have LeBron James and Anthony Davis along with some talented role players. Los Angeles wants to win now, but they’re below .500 and look poised to miss the playoffs for the second straight season. Assuming Los Angeles can somehow get the pick to draft Bronny in the 2024 NBA Draft, that would be perfect for the team and for LeBron James.
LeBron has a player option worth more than $50 million for the 2025 season so he can re-sign and hopefully play with his son and Anthony Davis. The purple and gold will have to bet that their team won’t be competitive in the next few years, even if they’re trying to win now. This may actually work in their favor. They can now try to win, and if they win, the plan is successful. If they don’t win, they can do a quick rebuild by trading Anthony Davis. If they can somehow keep Davis, they can trade anyone else and include their 2029 first-round pick in their top-10 pick in 2025.
Whatever the package, the Lakers and LeBron James want Bronny James in the league. LeBron can make his $50 million, which may be his last in the NBA, and know he makes a lot of money and still plays with his eldest son, he can ride until sunset. It would also benefit the Lakers organization, knowing they could keep LeBron James with his son until 2025, creating endless storylines and packed seats again.
cleveland cavaliers

Without a doubt, the fairytale destination is Cleveland. LeBron’s hometown, which said his final farewell while playing for the team that gave him No. 1 overall in 2003, will be iconic. LeBron’s son will be even more iconic by his side, and it will be incredible to witness such a feat. LeBron was No. 1 in 2003 and went on to win championships 13 years later as a more experienced superstar player. James ended up leaving Cleveland twice, but returning to Cleveland one last time for another title in 2025 would be absolutely insane. Who knows, maybe a mix of Darius Garland, Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley or Jarrett Allen might be on the roster too.
No matter what the Cleveland Cavaliers do with their roster, will they pass up their chances of drafting Bronny James and acquiring LeBron James in free agency? Probably not, unless the team is really competing for a title and doesn’t want to ruin the chemistry. This season, along with 2024, will tell a lot about Cleveland, as the core of Garland, Mitchell, Mobley and Allen has the talent to contend for a title in the East. We won’t know for sure until the end of the season, but the Cavaliers are currently a wait-and-see team. Regardless, LeBron’s final year in Cleveland will be iconic.
We saw many great moments in the player’s final season, including Kobe Bryant’s retirement tour last year and his 60-point final game. LeBron can definitely play with his eldest son in his final season at age 40, since free agency is voluntary. King has had countless memorable moments, but this one will stand out as the most heartwarming of his career.
